About the District

Cooper ISD is a rural school district providing a success-filled learning environment for the young people of the area.  The district includes three campuses: pre-kindergarten/headstart through fifth grade in elementary, 6th through 8th grade in junior high, and 9th through 12th grade in high school.  The district is fully accredited and has a rating of Academically Acceptable by the Texas Education Agency.

The community served by Cooper ISD is located in Delta County, approximately 90 miles northeast of Dallas on State Highway 24.  In addition to Cooper, the county seat, the towns of Ben Franklin, Enloe, Klondike, Lake Creek, and Pecan Gap are served through the school district.

FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) is the state’s effort to measure school financial performance.  Cooper ISD  received the highest  possible rating of Superior Achievement in the most current  rating.

Cooper ISD is proud of its Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) performance.  Steady gains have been made in each tested area.  District  percentages for 2008 indicate that more than 93% passed reading/English, language arts, writing and social studies, more than 82% passed mathematics, and more than 76% passed science.

Our students are proud to carry on our Bulldog traditions in a brand new football field that was opened in August of 2008.  We are even more excited to begin the construction of a new elementary school which will be located on the grounds of the previous football field.

Academics at Cooper ISD are the number one priority.  We offer proven research-based techniques taught by an experienced and dedicated teaching staff.  Our Cooper Curriculum includes the scope and sequence developed by the C-Scope group of educational service centers.  We also incorporate Sharon Wells math in the elementary grades.  We are pleased to provide Voyager comprehensive reading instruction in grades kindergarten through third.  Together, we provide a sound curriculum base taught by a quality teaching staff.

In addition to core academics, Cooper offers numerous opportunities for student growth and involvement.   Student activities include leadership (Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes), athletics (football, cross-country, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, track, tennis, power-lifting, and cheerleading), fine arts (theater arts, band, drama club), career and technology (agriculture, Future Farmers of America, homemaking, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America ) and academic (UIL and Book Club).

Additional programs and services for students with specific needs.  For dyslexia, we offer two complete research-based instructional programs.  Our English language learners are served through English as a Second Langauge within the classroom onthe elementary campus, and during a specific class period at the secondary.  Gifted and talented, Reading Recovery, and counseling services are also offered through based on student needs.

Cooper ISD is committed to serving the needs of all students in a quality educational environment.  Our district mission:

Cooper Independent School District is a partnership between community, staff, and parents committed to ensuring that every student will learn and be successful in an ever changing society. Student success is exemplified by academic excellence, personal integrity, honesty, and responsible citizenship.
